Roy ‘Chubby’ Brown

Roy Vasey, better known by his stage name Roy ‘Chubby’ Brown, is a stand-up comedian famous for his crude humor.

Born in Grangetown, North Riding of Yorkshire, Brown left his home when he was 14 years of age. He moved from job to job and spent some time in prison before his career was even a thought. Brown found work as an entertainer at men’s clubs. First, he was a drummer in a band called Pipeline. Later, he was part of the comedy act “Alcock & Brown.”

In the 1970s, he made an appearance on the British talent show New Faces. He failed another audition for the show Opportunity Knocks because he used the word ‘arse.’ Brown is known for his lack of political correctness and crude humor.

When performing on stage, Brown wears a clown-like costume, goggles and a flying helmet. Throughout his lengthy career, Brown has mocked ethnic minorities, the Queen Mother and himself.

In 1993, Brown released a film called U.F.O., in which he starred as himself with Roger Llyod-Pack. The film follows Brown as he is abducted by aliens in a hotel during his live show.

Brown also made an appearance in The League of Gentlemen’s second series as the town mayor.

Along with film and television, Brown has also dabbled in music. He released a single “Living Next Door to Alice,” which spent 19 weeks on the UK Singles Chart in 1995. The single peaked at number three.

In 1996, he released the single “A Rocking Good Christmas,” which peaked at 51 and was written by Ray Hedges.

He’s released two music albums: Fat Out of Hell and Take Fat and Party.

The comedian’s shows are rarely televised due to his strong language and racist and sexist remarks.

Roy Brown has been a part of the stand-up scene for more than three decades. His live shows were released every Christmas since 1990.

Brown in 2002 was diagnosed with throat cancer and had one of his vocal cords removed. In 2006, he released an autobiography called Common as Muck: The Autobiography of Roy ‘Chubby’ Brown.

Crude, rude and dirty, Roy Brown still has a loyal following in the UK. He isn’t afraid to share his views and has, on a few occasions, been forced off stage or had his show canceled.
