Rob Brydon
Rob Brydon, born Robert Brydon Jones, is a Welsh television and radio presenter, actor, singer, comedian and impressionist. Born in Baglan, Glamorgan, Brydon has played in several comedy series, including Supernova (as Dr. Paul Hamilton), Gavin & Stacey (as Bryn West), and Marion and Geoff (as Keith Barret).
In 2010, he teamed up with Steve Coogan for the BBC series The Trip. The duo released subsequent series, including The Trip to Italy (2014) and The Trip to Spain (2017).
Brydon has appeared on the BBC One comedy show Would I Lie to You? since 2009. From 2006-2007, he played himself in Rob Brydon’s Annually Retentive series on BBC Three. He’s presented his own late-night show on BBC Two, called The Rob Brydon Show, and he continues to host the BBC One Saturday game show The Guess List.
The comedian and television presenter attended two independent schools as a child: St. John’s School and Dumbarton House School. Fellow actor Eddie Izzard attended St. John’s, and Brydon’s classmate at Dumbarton was Catherine Zeta-Jones.
Brydon would go on to attend the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff. He left after a year to be part of Radio Wales. In his early radio days, he worked as a disc jockey at BBC Radio Wales. His Saturday morning shows included bits from stand-up comedian Peter Park-Walker.
He stayed with Radio Wales for six years, and served as the main presenter of Rave. Brydon is still a comedy performer on BBC Radio Five Live’s show The Treatment.
Robert wouldn’t gain national recognition until he began doing voice-over work. He is known for his voices in the Discworld computer games and for his work in television advertising, including: Cahoot, McDonald’s, Tesco, Renault, Mint Card, Abbey National, Pot Noodle, Crunchy Nut Cornflakes and Fairy Liquid.
In 2000, Brydon got his television breakthrough, co-writing and performing in the BBC series Marion and Geoff and Human Remains. His career in comedic television continues today.
In 2006, the Welsh comedian made his first appearance on the BBC Radio 4’s I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue, a comedy panel game. In 2009, he signed on to Would I Lie to You?
In 2010, Brydon ventured into stand-up comedy, and went on tour in the UK. He later released Rob Brydon: Live.
Brydon has made an honorary fellow of his former school, the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. He was also made Member of the Order of the British Empire for his services to charity, broadcasting and comedy.
